You knew it was bound to happen eventually.  It looks like The Biggest Loser is about to go Hollywood by having a celebrity appear as a contestant on the show. Ruben-Studdard-biggest-loser

It’s being said that Ruben Studdard, who won the second season of American Idol back in 2003, is going to be on the Biggest Loser’s 15th season in hopes that he will be able to gain control over his weight.

The 35-year-old singer, who had been dubbed the “Velvet Teddy Bear” during the reality singing competition has battled with his weight for years even though his participation in a 2006 program through Duke University helped him lose 70lbs and adopt vegetarianism.

Back then, Studdard appeared on the TODAY show and said: “On both sides of my family, I have a history of diabetes and high blood pressure and things of that nature.  I just wanted to basically combat those issues at an early age. They’ve never been an issue for me, but I wanted to do it while I was still young and felt like working out and looking great.”

Unfortunately, stress-eating during his 2011 divorce from Surata Zuri McCants led him to regain the majority of the weight he had lost.

Still, he recognizes his ability to be an example for others who have struggled to maintain a healthy weight and calls it “somewhat of a mission.”  His poor eating habits, he explains, arise from growing up in the South where deep fried foods, among other things, are especially common.

Those hoping to catch a glimpse of Stoddard on The Biggest Loser will have to tune in to the 15th season premiere on October 8, 2013.
