Best friends Sidney Good and Alexis Fairchild, both 17, were on their dream vacation in Panama City, Florida when they decided to go parasailing. Although Alexis tweeted that she was freaking out, they summoned up the courage to go through with it.
“Nightmare” isn’t even a strong enough word to describe what happened next. Heavy winds caused the parasail to detach from the boat after it dropped anchor due to bad weather, leaving the girls’ fate in the hands of the wind. As beach-goers watched, the parasail flew the girls on a crash course with a condo. Onlookers describe hearing horrific screams until the moment when the girls collided with the 13th floor balcony.

They tried to grab the railing, but the parasail lifted them up and over the condo and into the parking lot, where it tangled them in power lines before dropping them onto an SUV with enough force to break the windshield and leave a massive dent. Emergency crews got to the girls almost immediately, and now they’re in the hospital in critical condition, suffering from massive head and internal injuries.
Aquatic Adventures, the parasailing company, has not offered any statement on the incident, nor has the boat’s captain. The girls are currently undergoing a host of surgeries to save their lives.
