Showtime’s hit show, Dexter, ended last month (and most feel the finale was dreadful) which means that the actors will have to start looking for new jobs.
Fortunately, David Zayas, who portrayed Angel Batista, has already been picked up for an upcoming project. It is being reported that he has joined the cast of the Annie remake.
This reboot will clearly have a different feel to it than the original since the cast has been chosen to be more culturally diverse.
The little orphan, Annie, will be played by Quvenzhane Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) while Jamie Foxx will star as Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks (renamed Benjamin Stacks in this version).
Zayas will play Lou, ”the local bodega owner who is a friend to Annie and has a crush on Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz).” Who could have a crush on Miss Hannigan? Should be interesting!
The film will be produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith alongside Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment partners, James Lassiter and Jada Pinkett Smith. Undoubtedly, if they pull this off the soundtrack could be absolutely amazing.
Annie hits theaters on December 19, 2014.
