Get ready for a whole lotta Avatar. It’s being reported that James Cameron is still developing parts 2, 3 and 4 to follow up the highly successful film and, hopefully, he isn’t being too ambitious.
Sam Worthington, who appeared as Jake Scully in the first and will appear in the sequel(s), revealed that production will actually begin around this time next year.
He explained: ”They are still writing it. We are going to start this time next year, and we will do two, three and four. In one shot, we’ll do them simultaneously. I’ll be grateful if it finishes.”
Avatar 2 is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2016, with Avatar 3 slated for December 2017, and Avatar 4 in 2018. The original film was released in 2009 which means that that there will be a seven year gap between it and its first sequel.
Cameron’s goal is to shoot the films back-to-back and, in order to accomplish that, he’s spending extra time nailing down the storyline so that it flows seamlessly.
In the upcoming installments, viewers’ knowledge of the universe will be expanded as more moons of Polyphemus are explored. The first sequel will contain more rainforest than the original and will also include the ocean of Pandora. Despite this, Cameron has said that, while he will continue along with the environmentalist theme, the sequels will be more about entertaining the audience.
The relationship between Jake and Neytiri will continue to evolve and their interactions with the humans will continue to be volatile. Both Worthington and Zoe Saldana (Neytiri) have signed on to reprise their roles.
