A police officer for the University of Incarnate Word killed a student named Robert Cameron Redus this morning. The 23-year-old was pulled over by the cop near the San Antonio, Texas campus and the two reportedly got into an altercation. Seconds later, multiple shots were fired and the brilliant student and world traveler was dead.

Scroll down to see 9 pictures of Robert Cameron Redus, who was the co-valedictorian of his high school in the city of Baytown. Friends say he was smart, loved the outdoors and was never known to get into trouble. On his Facebook, he talked mostly about his travels to Central and South America.

Did the police officer overreact? That’s what many fellow students believe. They simply can’t comprehend how a routine traffic stop involving such a gentle soul can turn into a deadly shooting. We’ll keep you abreast of the latest details of this case.

Only two people know what happened and one isn’t talking. Hopefully, the incident was captured on the officer’s video camera.

    My heart is broken.

Cops do have the right to fire if a subject may look mean or aggresive it is common that police officers use deadly force for such beings. such a cruel world..

    • TESL TEACHER

You know I agree. In fact, if a cop tells someone to get out of a car and they refuse, that person should be shot. Police officers must be able to issue orders and those orders must be followed, not matter what is said. I believe the police are here to help us all the time. We can trust them to make the right decisions all the time. That is why they have a gun and we don’t. I also believe that no one should question a police officer. If he tells you he needs to search your vehicle or body, and you refuse, then you should be shot. Remember, the police do not make mistakes and they know when someone is a criminal or needs to be taken off the street.

OMG, please tell me you’re using sarcasm! A policeman is just that…a man (or woman). They are not above anyone – they also have to abide by the law – not above it! The UIW “cop” is just that…he is not a POLICEMAN and should NOT have followed that student. Sounds like he was out looking to exercise his power – but he totally ABUSED IT! …and maybe that’s why he couldn’t hold down a job for more than a year! Shame on UIW for not finding and hiring the best! and SHAME on YOU for finding an excuse for his behavior!

    • Laura

    • sorrybutdamngrowthehellup

I’ll say this AGAIN…FUCK YOU, YOU PIECE OF SHIT! Go crawl up BHO’s ass and dine on the shit from the bleeding heart liberal assholes which you love so much. Just freakin put a gun in your mouth and help us all be rid of your kind.

He was unarmed. I’m still in so much shock. I phucking miss him so much
it hurts. He was literally the coolest guy I’ve ever known. He had zero
enemies. He was just such a positive person. I just feel numb. I’ve been
sitting in my room looking at a wall for like 6 hours. Any advise or
    wisdom?

    • TESL TEACHER

Yeah. Be proactive. Take a stand against police abuse and learn your rights. Teach others. This is the best step to take for your friend.

    • Guest

Stay Alive and advice others..Never stop in a dark place at night when a Cop pulls you over..pull into an well lit public business. Try to hold your tongue., even if the cop is a Jack a$$…Stay in your vehicle until instructed to get out. Put your hands on the steering wheel. Don’t make sudden moves or reach down..
,I’m NOT saying Cam did anything wrong, Im just saying this it might save your or your friends life.
.My Condolences go out to his Wonderful Family, they raised a fine son and he didn’t deserve this.

Get armor, get a firearm, practice & always carry.
The person you knew is there in your mind, tell people about him and he will live in your words.

  • Txsallysue

That far off campus…why wouldn’t the officer call the police into whose jurisdiction he had wandered? This seems like overstepping his authority… isn’t using a taser gun the 1st option? I think UIW officers may need some training. It is a tragedy that a life is lost because an officer put himself in situation where he had no business. God bless the student’s family during this holiday season. They will need all the love they can get to just get through the month.

Well its a real sad day. I’m sure the cop is sad too. It’s all just unfortunate, it’s too bad Robert chose to struggle with police instead of cooperating, which lead to his untimely death. When you cooperate, you get to live and tell your story to the judge. It’s the people that resist and struggle that have murdered police officers in the line of duty in the past, and it’s the people who struggle and resist who end up getting murdered themselves. We live in a volatile society Even if the incident was minor, when a person starts resisting and struggles, it sends off every red flag in a Cops mind, to which they must react. This article says Robert was really smart, I do not doubt that. Smart people tend to get into altercations with cops as they feel they have a better understanding of their rights, and know when they are infringed upon. Street smarts will teach you that “your rights” will get infringed on all the time by street cops, they honestly do not care. There job isn’t to protect your rights, its to try and see if you somehow committed a crime they can back up in court with your statements or evidence. Street smarts will teach you that when you deal with a street cop, if they start approaching you in an investigatory manner, you do your best to cooperate. If you don’t feel like you should, ask if you are free to leave. If they say they are detaining you, provide your ID and keep your mouth shut. If they ask if they can search you or your stuff, you do no you may not search me or my personal property. They are gonna press you about what you were up to, where you are heading; you don’t have to tell them any of this. Be polite, calm, and talk to them as little as possible. If you get arrested, quit talking to them all together. You can always cut a deal with your lawyer after the fact, no need to get pressured into it. Most importantly, if you do everything as mentioned, and your rights were indeed infringed upon, even if you did commit a crime it will all get thrown out in court! However if you struggle and try to argue with a street cop, you will gain nothing. Let’s be real, they are never going to be like “yea you know what, your right I shouldn’t have illegally searched you just now. I totally get why you broke out of my hold and struggled with me to tell me that. Sorry man, go ahead and get out of here and have a good night!”. This whole situation sucks every time it happens. I don’t think anyone is to blame. It just sucks.

      Well said

  • Steffy93

    Very sad.
Why is there no information about what happened? There has to be more to this story.

You can shoot an unarmed person during a physical altercation? I must have missed that lecture during training.

Actually you can only shoot an unarmed person if he is attempting to kill you i.e/ choking you and you cannot breathe, banging your head against a brick wall or off the sidewalk, beating you so bloody with his fists or stomping you with his feet you are about to lose consciousness and someone can then take your gun away from you to finish you off.

Otherwise you can only use physical force to stop physical force. They give you a baton, you carry a 3/5 cell metal mag lite flashlight, (They hurt) you carry mace and sometimes a taser. You get months of self defense training. Why you can even slap your opponent upside the side of the head with your firearm if you have too. (That hurts)

But fire multiple shots into the person? I think not.

This does not sound like bad police work this sounds like criminal conduct. Can’t wait to hear this Campus Cops explanation. What’s he going to tell a Grand Jury? “The big bad student was bullying me?”

    • Cyberats

Obviously in a close quarters fight, you will not have room to aim your weapon. Or if you did manage to draw, you will fire one shot to the side of the person’s temple. Otherwise he had space to go back and call for backup, if his martial arts skills were lacking.

  • lmh16az

Why was the campus police off campus? This campus cop was out of his district. Cop kills student so he could get away with murder.

  • Soka Sema

Stop speculating, You have no idea who he was and what happened.

    • Michael Dennis

This young man didn’t “look” dangerous in his pix,,but who knows. However, since he had no gun and may not have wanted or objected to being ordered out of the car, the campus policeman should have ordered backup and waited until someone else responded.
I can’t wait to see when he called it in, before the fight or after, and the blood work on the victim as well. Too soon to tell, but something has gone terribly wrong here during this stop. The fact he stopped at all, shows he had some sense that something was wrong and obeying the policeman at that point.

“Did the officer overract?” Why can you NOT ask the question “Was Cameron such a prick, that he got his ass shot because he was up to no good?” OR…”Was Cameron such a dumbass as to take the officer’s baton and when he attacked the officer he got his punk ass shot?” Hmmmm….Two very good questions in my mind.

  • Cyberats

Before joining the Campus Police for 2.5yrs. he changed 8 different agencies in another 2.5yrs. of “law enforcement”, THAT is not a stable carrier man nor a law enforcement veteran, just a nutcase unable to find his nest. Corporal ? Why ? No Red Flags ?

  • La Familia

I was wondering why the national coverage of the Redus shooting has disappeared from the leftist media websites. Now I know.

    “….

Pruitt said, “Officer Carter instructed Redus 14 TIMES to place his
hands behind his back and informed him THREE times he was under arrest,
and to stop resisting 56 TIMES.”

The chief confirmed Redus was able to take Carter’s baton and began HITTING THE OFFICER ON HIS ARMS AND HEAD until he was able to retrieve it, but the struggle continued.

Pruitt said Carter then drew his service revolver, a .40-caliber
semi-automatic, and warned Redus FOUR times, “Stop or I’ll shoot.”

He said Carter described how Redus then charged at him with his arms raised as if he was about to strike him.

“That’s when he fired the weapon six times, striking Redus five times,” Pruitt said.

The cChief said not only do they have AUDIO RECODINGS, they also have an
apartment resident who upon hearing the commotion, came downstairs.

“He ACTUALLY WITNESSED a violent struggle between Officer Carter and Robert Redus,” Pruitt said.

SO THE CHOIRBOY TURNED OUT TO BE A VIOLENT THUG. TOXICOLOGY REPORTS PLEASE? TOXICOLOGY REPORTS! WHAT DRUGS WERE IN THIS KIDS SYSTEM?

      Sounds like bullshit to me
