Earlier this year, it was reported that DreamWorks Animation had come to some sort of agreement with Netflix. The online streaming service is said to be working on 1,200 episodes of original programming for the studio over the next five years.
The first series to be announced so far is Turbo FAST, which will be based on the drag-racing animated snail flick Turbo.
This will be Netflix’s first attempt at creating an original children’s series but, fortunately, they are beginning with recognizable hero. Along with Turbo, other fast-moving snails who will appear in the show include Whiplash, Burn, Smoove Move, White Shadow, Skidmark and Chet.
In case you’re wondering, Ryan Reynolds will not be reprising his role as the voice of Turbo, who will instead be portrayed by Reid Scott (Veep). What is interesting, however, is that Ken Jeong, who is most popular for his roles in the Hangover movies, will continue to lend his voice to Kim Ly.
Over the holiday season, five episodes of the new show will be released with additional episodes making their debut sometime in the new year. Some have complained that Netflix’s usual practice of releasing an entire season of a show at once takes away some of the excitement of waiting for a new episode. Perhaps, they are trying this new model before rolling it out to all shows in the future.
