Back in 2000, Adidas released the Crazy 1 basketball shoe, which combined comfort with a bold, fashion-forward design. It was so cool, in fact, that some of the game’s biggest stars were seen wearing them.

The design was inspired by German sports cars. Adidas wanted to find a way to replicate that sleek look and pulled it off by creating a curved, aerodynamic upper with molding on the heel and toe modeled after a car’s grill and lights. Crazy, right?

Adidas took it a step further by bringing more car details into the aesthetics. The upper features a matte finish meant to bring the luxury paint job of high-end vehicles to mind and if you thought the midfoot arch reminded you of the shape of a car’s wheel, you would be right. To accommodate quick cuts and promote stability and traction, Adidas included a double foam collar for extra ankle support.

Interested? The Adidas Crazy 1 is available for $125 on December 26 at Adidas Basketball and Shoe Palace.
