In what might be the most shocking story of the year thus far, Chad Oulson was shot and killed by a 71-year-old former cop. His crime? Texting during a showing of the Lone Survivor movie at the Cobb Theaters.

Look down the page to see 14 pictures of Chad Oulson, who lived in
Land O’ Lakes, Florida. The murder took place in Wesley Chapel, which is in the Tampa Bay area.

According to reports, the 43-year-old father was texting his three-year-old daughter when the fellow moviegoer got annoyed. His 33-year-old wife tried to stop the shooting death but the crazed gunman unloaded his .38 handgun in his chest.

What a tragedy. RIP to this loving dad.

Ignorant bastard shouldn’t have been texting.

    • You’re wrong

      Agreed.

  • anon

This is why you shouldn’t be a jerk to random strangers…you never know who you’re dealing with.

    • You’re wrong

      Exactly.

  • meh

    Good riddance to this douche

    • Phoebe1950

The FBI has you on watch.

    • You’re wrong

Agreed. We don’t need people like Chad Oulson around.

  • Darkangel

Shouldn’t have been texting, shouldn’t have been a jerk, he’s a douche, you 3 sound like miserable ignorant selfish aholes. 2 families just got destroyed and all you can do is troll. Its all fun and troll games until it happens to your loved one.Douche bags

    • red neck hater

I am sick to death of uneducated redneck gun nuts thinking it is ok to kill a man because he was texting BEFORE a movie started. You: lowlife scum. How dare youi!!!!!!!!

    • You’re wrong

I will echo Darkangel. Chad was a douche, he was a douche, he was a douche, and he was an aggressive douche in front of 25 other people to a 71 year old man. He didn’t “deserve” to die but he sure as hell brought this on himself. Guy shoulda shut the f *ck up and left the theater to text instead of aggressively harassing an old man who was trying to get a manager

    • Prunella

He had already called the manager, there were lights swirling around, the movie hadnt started, and he was the one in the wrong. and getting shot for calling or daring to text(not talk and laugh, but text) about an issue with a child/carer is about as low as it goes, except in idiots minds its the victim who was a douche… Altho he cant tell his story…
The douche is not the dead guy. Its the guy who ignored a no gun sign in the theatre, and shot someone for being a nuisance.
      yeah thats the amerikkan way

    • You’re wrong

Chad was a douche. Glad he’s gone.

  • Dung Shooken

The shooter will go away for life. The little girl and wife will never again see their loved one. Sucks all around.

  • Peter

The guy wasn’t shot over texting during a movie. He was shot because he was humiliating the old man in front of a crowd. He forced the old man to choose either a showdown or leave the theater/sit out the movie in shame. The guy should have realized he was at a movie theater with, you know, other people, not at his own home. He should have simply apologized to the old man and put away his phone. He chose not to.

No doubt he was ridiculing the ex-cop. Obviously it wasn’t worth it.

    • Phoebe1950

      Grand Torino.

    • Jeffrey Hall

Did the police take your statement? Was this evidence presented at the bond hearing? I’m guessing no!

    • You’re wrong

You’re a joke. Peter nailed it. Good riddance to Chad and people who behave just like him.

    • Jeffrey Hall

Standard reply from someone with no answers! Let’s pray it’s not you the next time something like this happens. The problem is people (like you) tend to think they have the right to say anything the want to people or make requests of others to do things when they have zero authority to do so. If the texting (during previews) was that much of a problem, then why not go outside find, an usher or cop, and have them address it? The only lesson learned here is to stay strapped because you never know what fool may feel entitled to give you orders, get mad when you don’t comply immediately, and when things get thick, they pull out a gun and shoot your wife through her hand and the same projectile lands in your chest and kills you. I child will grow up without her dad over something that could’ve been avoided if this man would’ve minded his business or moved to another seat, and you’re cool with that? People never cease to amaze me! Good thing the justice system didn’t share your view and denied him bond. Hopefully it will be 15 months or longer before his case goes to trial.

    • You’re wrong

I actually have the right to tell some jerk-off to stop using his phone in a theater. We all do. You apparently learned nothing from this. It is people like you that think they are entitled to behave in any fashion that they please, and disregard the rules and common courtesies of shared public spaces (that other people PAID to use) that are the problem.
Did Chad deserve to get shot? No. Was he a total douche for continuing to text in the theater and argue and cuss at an old man who was asking him to stop and follow the rules and have common courtesy for those around him while using a PUBLIC SPACE THAT HAS RULES? Yes. Was he a total douche for continuing to mock an old man as he returned to the theater after trying to do the right thing like getting a manager? Yes. Was he a total douche and also a COMPLETE Idio* (and a criminal for that matter) for assaulting an older gentleman by throwing an object in his face and hitting him with it? Good riddance to Chad Oulson. Society is better off without douchebags like him (and like you). I hope I see you in the theater…

    • Prunella

so you can shoot someone because they are ignorant, or pissing you off? In what reality?

  • cornerofthemoon

Two lessons to be learned. Never be an inconsiderate prick at a movie theatre and never kill someone for being an inconsiderate prick at a movie theatre.

    • Phoebe1950

      That’s about it.

  • cornerofthemoon

It sounds like he was probably ridiculing the old man. That is what probably made him snap more than the texting per se. If Chad were just a tad more considerate he’d be alive today.

In a world of emotionally intelligent people…even if only one is so…here’s how it would have gone down. 1. Man 1 texts in theatre. 2. Man 2 is not irritated by it. Or, 2. Man 2 is irritated and tells Man 1 to stop. 3. Man 1 says …”yes, absolutely, sorry man…just texting my 3 year old and will put it away now. 4. Man 2 says nothing and calms down. OR 4. Man 2 says … “hurry up a$h$le. 5. Man 1 realizes Man 2 is potentially lethal and so puts down the text and keeps quiet throughout the movie OR leaves the cinema with his wife knowing there is potential danger ahead. End of story. No one hurt. Little girl still has her dad. Both wives are happy. Everyone else enjoys the movie. Another option is GUN CONTROL!!!

    • Runt

How does gun control work here? He was a cop, everyone says cops should have guns. Even retired cops get guns in heavily controlled areas of the country. Not defending the former cop, I really haven’t made up my mind on what happened here yet. There are a few questions still out there, the wife was shot in the hand, was it the front of the hand or the back? This goes to which way she though the threat was coming, was she trying to deflect the gun (shot in the palm) or restraining her husband (shot in the back of the hand). Did the 43 year old, who looks to be in good shape, try to physically intimidate the 71 year old man with health issues? Did he make physical contact? What actions preceded the shot on both parties?

    • Phoebe1950

Guns should never be allowed in movie theatres. That’s gun control. And, really, do retired cops really need to carry them around, concealed?

  • CarlySimon

    Texting a 3 year-old?

    • Prunella

      his daughters day care, sheesh

    • CarlySimon

Certainly possible, but that’s not what the story above says so I’m not sure your “sheesh” is justified.
