I just don’t understand. I know we live in a politically correct world, but somebody is going to have to explain to me without psychobabble how a male kid could be ruined for life – or even a weekend – by tapping that.

Kids are emotionally immature – unlike the rest of us, right? – so he may fall in love with her and get hurt, a condition that will last for some fifteen minutes or until the next woman – probably a girl this time – enters his life.

But here’s the thing – no matter how much we complain about sexual predators, the fact is that underneath all this stuff, society doesn’t really consider it a crime, does it? Women teachers who have “consensual” sex with their students are given probation and community service or – rarely – five minutes in jail.

I need not remind anyone what would happen to a male teacher doing the same thing with a female student. You are all very aware that he would be in jail until your great-grand-kids would be sleeping with teachers.yet unborn.

My point is not that it is a great idea. It is that it is no big deal, and that – more importantly – the disparity in the severity of sentencing based upon gender proves that society at large feels the same way. PC or no PC, rightly or wrongly, like it or not, that’s simply the way this thing rolls.
