Carlos Lopez IV was a stuntman in a number of Hollywood films, including The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and 22 Jump Street. And this week, he died while trying to jump from his hotel window to a veranda in the building opposite. The fatal stunt wasn’t for a film. He was apparently attempting to jump from the fourth-floor window while practicing parkour.
According to the Portuguese publication Correio da Manha, Lopez — who was originally from Concord, North Carolina — plunged from the Lisbon hotel 16 meters to death. His girlfriend, Chuanie Liang witnessed his tragic fall.
A neighbor also witnessed the bloody accident. “I’ve never seen as much blood,” Natercia Gama told the UK’s Mirror. “I woke up with the noise, went to the window and saw the young man lying on the ground, on an interior patio we share with the hostel where it happened.”
The 25-year-old Lopez was loved by many relatives, friends and associates. His obituary says in part: “He was a SAG-AFTRA accredited stuntman who had already worked on over 25 movies and television shows at the time of his passing. In his spare time he enjoyed martial arts, drawing, being at the lake, and utilizing his joyful gift of being able to make anyone around him smile and laugh.”
