Before we can even get into a discussion, if you haven’t seen the leaked trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, let’s remedy that bit of oversight on your part immediately (you’re welcome).
Let’s dig in to what we’ve just seen, shall we? First, we know that this trailer was supposed to make it’s official debut during next week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but the studio has recovered nicely after the breach.
The wait for this first glimpse of the movie was definitely worth it. We get to hear the inner thoughts of new villain, Ulton, as we watch the Avengers (with new faces!) scramble to deal with this new threat. Can I just say that James Spader‘s voice is absolutely perfect for this role? Can I also say that it’s pretty flipping great that 80s mega stars, Spader and Robert Downey Jr., are together in this movie? Let the age of middle-aged badassness begin! Did anyone else have chills when, after talking about people being puppets, Ultron says “there are no strings on me”? This is going to be so good!
Side note: Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) look amazing and it’s almost like they’ve been there all along.
If you are unfamiliar with the plot, it follows Tony Stark as he tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program. Unfortunately, things don’t go as smoothly as planned and Ultron seizes this perfect opportunity to emerge and put his plans into action. Of course, Iron Man and the Avengers are forced to step up their game and save the planet from ruin.
We all know that even the best ideas can go south if the film looks like crap and this is definitely an ambitious plot. In addition to Joss Whedon returning after doing a stellar job with the first Avengers film, we know that this sequel will have more than 3,000 visual effects (VFX) shots which is more than any other Marvel film.
Marvel‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
