When I heard that there was going to be another Jurassic Park movie, I really rolled my eyes. How many times were we going to have to live through the same plot? I was pleasantly surprised, however, by the storyline shown in the first official trailer for the upcoming sequel. I’m actually looking forward to seeing this in theaters.
Chris Pratt continues his meteoric rise to fame by starring in yet another film that is sure to reach blockbuster status.
In the clip, we see that Jurassic Park is finally open for business and is welcoming tourists and groups. It even winks at the arrogance of using these giant creatures as trained entertainment (keep an eye out for the Seaworld-esque scene in which a dinosaur emerges from the deep waters to snatch his meal – a dangling shark – in front of a cheering crowd).
As Pratt builds his trustworthy image, Bryce Dallas Howard continues to typecast herself as thoughtless and selfish and, to be honest, it pretty much works. In the trailer, she is shown talking about how she’s helped create the first dinosaur hybrid and, rather than be concerned about the implications, is excited about the possibilities (despite the Park’s dark history and the voice of reason from others).
Of course, things do not go as planned and this hybrid whom Howard says “will kill anything that moves” ends up on the loose. Kids and other tourists are shown running, screaming, Chris Pratt hops onto a motorcycle and looks like a badass and, naturally, there are dinosaurs everywhere.
It may not be an entirely new concept but it’s a fresh enough spin on the original plot to make this be interesting to old fans and new viewers alike. It opens in theaters on June 12, 2015 but you can check out this trailer in the meantime:
