Undoubtedly you’ve heard Charles Barkley’s opinions on Ferguson the past few days. When he used the word “scumbags” to describe the looters and rioters, some people were outraged. But Chuck is never one to shy away from speaking his opinion.
In response to Barkley’s comments, his colleague — fellow TNT analyst Kenny Smith — wrote an open letter to Barkley which was published on the USA Today website. Though I disagree with Smith that Barkley was best power forward of all-time (we all know that it’s Tim Duncan), Smith did bring up some valid points about why there is so much distrust in the police and judicial system from the African-American community. Smith talks of people who are living “the struggle” every day and who feel like they will never be heard, or be able to break free from the struggle. The open letter was definitely an interesting read.
The conversation didn’t end there. On Inside The NBA on TNT, Barkley and Smith talked openly about the Mike Brown-Darren Wilson case, as well as the decision not to indict the NYPD officer who killed Eric Garner. Watch the video below — both men bring up valid points. Oh and Shaq weighs in a bit, too.
