Another year, another reason to watch Netflix. Honestly, it’s not quite as good in Canada so I didn’t understand the full addictive allure until I moved south of the border. There are days when I barely want to leave the couch because I’ve discovered a new series or found a beloved movie I haven’t seen in years (and the sequels!).

January is a great time for Netflix binge-watching because we are all worn out from the holidays and it’s cold outside. Sure, we should try to get out and work off some of the weight we gained during the festive season but, at least, we know we have something to do with our downtime!

So the biggest news is that all 200+ episodes of Friends are now be available on Netflix which is pretty incredible. It’s still one of the most popular television shows to ever air and I can imagine people wanting to relive the tumultuous relationship between Ross and Rachel, and all the humor of Joey, Phoebe and the rest of the group.

In a hilarious mistake, Netflix originally listed “Friends” only as “F.R.I.E.N.D.S.” in their search database, and people freaked out when they couldn’t find it. But that little error has since been fixed.

If Friends is not on your radar, there are truly some great titles coming to the streaming service this month. For example, if you’ve never seen Tom Hanks as the lone survivor of a plane crash in Cast Away, put it on your list.  If you like dark humor (and Matthew Broderick), check out Election that stars a young Reese Witherspoon as a high school student with more ambition than you (or her teacher) can handle. Also, Chef is a feel-good movie that will have you reaching for your own cookbook!

Here’s the list of titles hitting Netflix throughout January (some premiere later in the month):

  • 101 Dalmatians (1996)

  • Bad Boys II (2003)

  • Batman & Robin (1997)

  • Bruce Almighty (2003)

  • Cast Away (2000)

  • Dallas: Season 3 (2012)

  • Get Low (2009)

  • Election (1999)

  • Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)

  • Fort Bliss (2014)

  • Friends: Complete Series (1994-2004)

  • Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003)

  • Mean Girls (2004)

  • Shall We Dance? (2004)

  • To Be Takei (2014)

  • The French Connection (1971)

  • The Quiet Man (1952)

  • The War of the Worlds (1953)

Highly recommend Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas – Cultish and mad. Meanwhile, Tinker Tailor is amazing and so smart.
