Do you love both the popular mobile game, Puzzle & Dragons, and the classic adventures that can only come from Super Mario Bros.? Have you ever wished that you could combine them into one badass mash-up (me neither but let’s go with it)? If so, your wish is about to come true!

Nintendo and GungHo Online Entertainment have joined forces to create a unique gaming opportunity for owners of the handheld 3DS device. The announcement came from GungHo CEO, Kazuki Morishita, and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo in a joint presentation.

In case you are wondering how this is all going to work (you’re not alone!), they explained that the RPG will start with Bowser kidnapping Peach (surprise, surprise) after accessing the power of a “Drop.”  Mario must then make his way through a series of puzzle battles in order to save his girl. Of course, this game wouldn’t be complete without other Nintendo cast members including Luigi and Yoshi.

The game is set to launch in Japan on April 29, 2015 for 4,000 yen and will support both StreetPass and local multiplayer functionality. When some slight panic occurred, an update to the announcement followed reassuring fans that Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition will be made available in other regions also.

The original Puzzles & Dragons, available on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire, is hugely popular. After release in Japan, it was downloaded 32 million times between the launch in 2012 and November 2014. North Americans have downloaded it 6 million times since the release in December 2012.

I will admit that, after looking at the video for this game, I’m pretty intrigued. I’m a huge Mario fan (played every title since it first came out) but I’ve never played Puzzles & Dragons. The combination is pretty adorable and I’m sure it’s more than a little challenging.

Have you played both games? Are you excited about this upcoming release?
