By now, you’ve heard that Disney is planning to resurrect DuckTales. If you’re between the ages of 30 and 40, there’s a good chance that this show played a major role in your childhood. I will admit that I preferred The Adventures of Chip & Dale a little more but it’s hard to compete with DuckTales, especially when you factor in that incredibly catchy and well-written theme song.

Still, it’s a little surprising that it’s being prepared for a relaunch on Disney XD in 2017. The show’s original 100 episodes aired from 1987 to 1990 and it was a pretty big hit for a while. Then, as is the case for every great show, it’s popularity waned and lived on as reruns for the past 25 years.

Disney Animation Television, which was responsible for the maiden run, will be in charge of the reboot. The plot will, again, follow Huey, Dewey and Louie, the nephews of Donald Duck, who are left in the care of their great-uncle, Scrooge McDuck, when Donald enlists in the Navy. If you are feeling sorry for these three little guys who seem to get passed around to different family members, you are not alone but I digress. The foursome embark on adventures in which they “might solve a mystery or rewrite history” (according to the aforementioned awesome theme song). Need a refresher? Watch this:

Senior VP of Programming and General Manager at Disney XD, Marc Buhaj, had the following to say: ”DuckTales has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history. It drew its inspiration from Disney legend Carl Barks’ comic books and, through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”

That’s all well and good but will this new generation actually like it and, if they do, how much change will have to be made to this classic in order to meet today’s standards? Even after watching this “Kids React to DuckTales” video I’m not sure what I think but I’m willing to give it a shot. It can’t be worse than any of the mindless crap they currently have on Disney XD.
