A Texas woman was knocked unconscious when her head hit the pavement during an arrest in Round Rock on Tuesday. Some are claiming that the officer involved — Ben Johnson — used excessive force during the incident. Two videos were shot of the arrest — the police dash cam footage and a bystander’s cell phone video.
Police were called to the scene after receiving multiple reports of a drunk woman in a nail salon. When officer Johnson arrived, he stopped 27-year-old Viviana Keith, who was walking toward her vehicle. The officer began to handcuff her. Johnson says that she began resisting arrest (but that is not clear in the footage). Johnson then performs a take-down move, throwing her to the ground. Keith hit her head on the pavement and was knocked out.
The video goes on to show the woman’s 6-year-old daughter walk over to her mother as Johnson rolls Keith over onto her back and checks her vitals.
Keith — who also suffered a black eye — was arrested and charged with DWI with a child younger than 15 and interfering in public duties. The incident is currently being investigated and Officer Johnson is still on the job.
Watch the footage of the arrest. What do you think? Was the officer justified in the takedown?
