Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and real estate developer Donald Trump have become embroiled in a nasty feud. Both candidates for the Republican nomination recently upped their offensive against each other, releasing scathing attack ads designed to take shots at weak spots in their respective campaigns in the hopes of shaking up the dynamic within the crowded GOP field.

Earlier in the summer, Bush enjoyed a comfortable position within the top three polling candidates; however, a shaky performance in the debates has caused his numbers to slip. Meanwhile, Trump continues to lead the pack by a comfortable margin, riding on the strength his larger-than-life persona and his bold appeals to the party’s conservative base.

The Trump campaign recently aired an ad blasting Bush’s sympathetic views on illegal immigration. “Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s kind of a… it’s an act of love,” Bush can be heard saying, juxtaposed against images of illegal immigrants captioned with the heinous crimes they have committed. “Love? Forget love. It’s time to get tough! Trump: make America great again” the web ad reads.

Shortly thereafter, the Bush campaign released its own ad highlighting a selection of so-called “Liberal Things that Trump Believes.” In response to a question about partial-birth abortion, Trump says, “I am pro-choice. I am very pro-choice in every respect.” To the topic of healthcare, Trump says: “As far as single-payer, it works in Canada, it works incredibly well in Scotland.” Trump can also be heard suggesting that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would do “a good job” negotiating a deal with Iran.

“Hillary Clinton, I think, is a terrific woman. I mean, I’m a little biased because I’ve known her for years,” Trump says. “I know her very well. She’s very talented,” he continues in a separate clip. When asked why he identifies as a Republican, Trump replies: “I have no idea.”

Bush used an appearance on Fox News to defend his immigration policies. When asked if he stands by the “act of love” statement, Bush replied: “What I stand by is the fact that we need to secure our border, and I have a comprehensive plan to do just that… That’s what we ought to be focusing on, not grandiose language, not mischaracterizing people’s views. That whole ad was just a complete mischaracterization of my thinking.”
