A man was arrested for felony animal cruelty after attacking a flamingo named “Pinky” at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. The 45-year-old Orlando man – Joseph Anthony Carrao – was visiting the park with his family on Tuesday when he reached into the enclosure, picked up the Chilean flamingo and threw the animal violently to the ground.

The flamingo had to be euthanized due to the severity of the injuries caused by such excessive force. “Pinky” was a popular animal at Busch Gardens, known for her dance routines.

“Pinky was a beloved member of the Busch Gardens Tampa Bay family and made many appearances on behalf of the park’s conservation and education efforts. She will be sorely missed,” the park said in a statement.
