Forty confirmed cases of Hepatitis A have been linked to frozen strawberries used in smoothies at Tropical Smoothie Cafe locations across Virginia. Over half of those infected have been hospitalized.

The contaminated strawberries were reportedly sourced from Egypt. They were pulled from the 96 cafe locations in Virginia early this month. However the number of infected people could rise significantly because it can take up to 50 days for symptoms to emerge.

Virginia isn’t the only state affected by the contaminated strawberries. There are over 500 Tropical Smoothie Cafe franchises across the United States.
