A 28-year-old mother from Queens went missing on Thursday and her family feared the worst. However, it was discovered on Saturday that she has been in a Long Island hospital since Thursday and has been in and out of consciousness.

Maria Marrero, a U.S. Open EMT, failed to show up for work at the Flushing Meadows tennis tournament on Thursday. Her family filed a missing persons report, distributed fliers and searched for the woman.
Apparently Marrero had called an ambulance for herself on Thursday morning because she had felt ill. A receptionist at the hospital recognized her photo from media reports, which led to her family being notified of her whereabouts on Saturday. It’s not known why they were not alerted that she was in the hospital on Thursday. Thankfully, the woman – who has an 11-year-old daughter – is alive, even if she’s not well. Authorities say that Marrero was not the victim of a crime, but her specific illness or injury has not be revealed.
