On Saturday, Charlotte police released portions of bodycam and dashcam footage from the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott. They also released a photo of the gun police said he was holding when fatally shot by the officer.
The dashcam video shows Scott come out of a white SUV while police stand behind another vehicle with their weapons raised. Scott emerges from the SUV and slowly walks backwards with his hands at his sides. As he is backing up, four shots ring out and Scott can be seen falling to the ground, then out of the frame.
The bodycam footage shows Scott standing outside of the SUV before he is shot, and shows officers respond to him after he was shot while he’s on the ground. The bodycam video is not from the officer who shot him.
Neither of the videos show definitively whether Scott had a gun in his hand or not. According to police, the handgun they allegedly recovered from Scott’s possession had his DNA and fingerprints on it.
