The entertainment industry has been dominated by Hillary Clinton supporters who vowed to leave the country if Donald Trump won the election. Surprisingly, rap legend Kanye West boldly claimed that he would have voted for Trump, calling the president-elect “absolutely genius.”
Yeezy made his shocking endorsement during the San Jose, California, leg of his Saint Pablo tour. When he stopped the show to talk about the presidential election, fans undoubtedly expected West to lay into Trump, but he did the opposite.
“I would have voted for Donald Trump,” Kanye said, kicking off a chorus of boos from the crowd. He went on to label Trump’s campaign as “absolutely genius.”
“They told me do not ever say that out loud,” he added.
The star also announced that he would throw his hat into the ring in the 2020 presidential election, insisting that he will have enough experience by then to run the country. A President Kanye, he promised, would fix the education system, address housing issues, and encourage black people to “stop focusing so much on racism.”
Kanye’s pro-Trump declaration comes a surprise, especially since he donated $2,700 to the Clinton campaign and gave $15,000 to the Democratic National Committee before the last midterm election.
