If you’re sick of Hollywood big wigs using their platform to push their political agendas down your throat, you’re going to hate this video.
A group of celebrities came together to call on the Republican members of the Electoral College to follow their conscience and not cast their vote for President-elect Donald Trump.
The result is roughly two-and-a-half minutes of various entertainers passionately reading cue cards over a melodramatic piano track, with the occasional quotation or infographic popping up to reinforce their point.
The cast – which includes people like Martin Sheen, Debra Messing, Moby, and a bunch of “celebrities” we did not recognize – jointly makes the argument that Trump is unfit to be president and claims that the Electoral College was designed to prevent people like him from assuming the Oval Office.
“As you know, our founding fathers built the Electoral College to safeguard the American people from the dangers of a demagogue,” Martin Sheen says, “and to ensure that the presidency only goes to someone who is, to an eminent degree, endowed with the requisite qualifications.”
Later in the video, the cast takes turns insisting that they are “not asking you to vote for Hillary Clinton,” but rather any other person besides Trump. If 37 electors did so, they claim, Trump would not secure the required 270 electoral votes and Congress would have to find a new candidate.
The video has racked up nearly 9 “dislikes” for every “like” it has received, a ratio that seems to suggest that the message is not going over well with viewers.
