WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, the embattled figure who commandeered the release of John Podesta’s emails and the Democratic National Committee leaks, claimed on Thursday that the Clinton-backed narrative of Russian election tampering is utterly false.
During a radio interview with Sean Hannity – the first interview Assange has given since Election Day – the controversial whistleblower stated that the allegations of Russian interference have been manufactured by the Obama administration to delegitimize President-elect Donald Trump.
“Our source is not the Russian government,” Assange said flat-out.
Assange blasted American mainstream media as the real force that tried to influence the election, chastising left-leaning news outlets for shaming Trump supporters.
“The degree of bias they’ve been showing in the election process – I guess it’s come from both sides but particularly the liberal press – we see that, and they feel it,” Assange said. “They don’t like being lectured or told what to do, and they rebel against it.”
Assange, who is currently sequestered at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London to avoid extradition for sexual assault charges that he soundly denies, also noted that Trump could find himself dealing with WikiLeaks revelations.
“If Donald Trump makes a lot of enemies on the inside in his time in office, then he could well face the same thing in for year’s time,” Assange said, implying that the damaging DNC and Podesta leaks actually came from a source within the U.S. government.
