A Texas teen probably saw his life flash before his eyes when he was caught by a police officer while smoking marijuana, but this lucky young man was fortunate enough to have been busted by a merciful cop.
A viral video uploaded to Facebook by Raiza Paredez shows the unidentified teenager doing push-ups near a parking lot while the benevolent police officer shines a flashlight on him.
“Big UP’s to the Arlington Police Officer that made the young black guy that decided to smoke weed on the movie theater parking lot to do push-ups then take him to jail or shoot him just Cuz,” Paredez wrote to accompany the video. “We need more cops like this.”
That officer, identified as Eric Ball, was working security at a movie theater when he was alerted that the teen was smoking outside. When Ball approached the teen, he quickly threw away what appeared to be a cigarette, but Ball smelled marijuana.
Since the teen acted respectfully to Ball and understood that he had made a mistake, the officer decided to instead force him to do 200 push-ups in order to avoid going to jail. Ball apparently tapped back into his high school football days for the punishment, which his coaches used to reprimand players.
Ball then went inside the movie theater and found the boy’s mother, who thanked him for not arresting her child. She also noted that she would have made the pot-smoking teen do even more push-ups for his misbehavior.
