Julian Assange has reappeared after months spent outside of the public eye in order to blast the Obama administration for allegedly misleading the public about WikiLeaks’ source of the Democratic leaks that have since been blamed on Russian interference.
During an appearance on Fox News’s Sean Hannity program that is set to air on Tuesday night, Assange claimed that President Barack Obama has a clear motive to implicate Russia as the culprit behind the damaging revelations.
“They’re trying to delegitimize the Trump administration as it goes into the White House,” Assange said during an interview that was held at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has been sequestered. “They are trying to say that President-elect Trump is not a legitimate president.”
“Our publications had wide uptake by the American people, they’re all true,” Assange added. “But that’s not the allegation that’s being presented by the Obama White House.”
Assange went on to once again confirm that no state-sponsored actor was responsible for handing his whistleblowing organization the hacked emails obtained from Hillary Clinton lieutenant John Podesta or the Democratic National Committee.
As for whether WikiLeaks had a role in influencing the outcome of the 2016 presidential election, Assange declined to state for certain one way or the other.
“But if it did,” he said, “the accusation is that the true statements of Hillary Clinton and her campaign manager, John Podesta, and the DNC head Debbie Wasserman Schultz, their true statements is what changed the election.”
