To longtime readers of Playboy, the 2015 decision to take the best aspect out of the magazine’s pages was mind-boggling, to say the least. It appears that Cooper Hefner, the 25-year-old son of Hugh Hefner and Playboy’s new chief creative officer as of a few months ago, agrees: Playboy will return to its provocative roots in the March/April issue and bring nude pics back.

The younger Hefner announced the move on Twitter on Monday, tweeting a picture of himself overlaid with his quote: “I’ll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake. Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem. Today we’re taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are.”

In an early 2016 interview, Hefner revealed that he had been shut out of board meetings and snubbed by Playboy higher-ups for publicly disagreeing with the nudity ban. Hefner found himself at odds with CEO Scott Flanders, who decided that the advent of the internet had ruined the appeal of the once-taboo Playboy.

Now, though, Hefner and Flanders appear to have made nice. “This is a remarkably special moment personal and professionally that I get to share this issue of Playboy magazine with my Dad, as well as with readers,” Hefner said in a press release. “It is a reflection of how the brand can best connect with my generation and generations to come.”

Other bygone Playboy fixtures are set to return as well, including the controversial “Playboy Philosophy” essay series and the reader-submitted “Party Jokes” feature, signaling a wholesale shift toward a vintage Playboy aesthetic that could improve the magazine’s struggling circulation numbers by appealing to nostalgic readers.

Incidentally, Cooper Hefner has a very personal connection not only to the return of nudity, but to the March/April cover model, Scarlett Byrne. She’s a lovely English actress who appeared in the Harry Potter series and had a recurring role in “The Vampire Diaries” – and she’s Hefner’s fiancée. Leaked images of the cover show that she does, in fact, appear to be nude, albeit with her nipple strategically covered by text.
