Malik Obama – the pro-Trump half-brother of former President Barack Obama who has been hailed as “Best Obama” by his legion of online supporters – took to Twitter to publish a copy of a Kenyan birth certificate that seems to confirm that his sibling was actually born in Mombasa.
“Surely. What’s this?” Malik wrote as a caption to an image of the mysterious birth certificate, which appears to show that a “Barack Hussein Obama II” was born in the Coast Province General Hospital in Mombasa to Stanley Ann Obama and Barack Hussein Obama on August 4, 1961.
The document places the time of the former president’s birth at 7:24 pm and goes on to describe Obama’s weight (7 pounds 1 ounce), length (18 inches), and width between shoulders (6 inches). It even has a baby’s footprint and signatures from the attending doctor and the supervisor of obstetrics.
Critics were quick to note that the birth certificate provided by Malik appears to match the document that an eBay seller named Lucas Smith posted for sale back in 2009. That copy was widely considered a convincing forgery for fudging several details, such as the name of the province in which Obama was born and the American date format.
If it’s such a fraudulent document, though, why did Twitter delete Malik’s post within minutes of it going live and then temporarily crack down on others trying to repost it? Considering that the post did not seem to violate any of the site’s community standards – and keeping in mind Twitter’s questionable treatment of pro-Trump tweeters — such behavior seems suspicious.
Malik Obama just tweeted out Barack Obama's birth certificate and it got deleted two minutes later.

Malik’s tweet was eventually allowed to be seen by the public again, but the question still stands: if it’s such a widely-debunked hoax, why did it scare Twitter?
