For women stuck between the plus-size and the rail-thin, the modeling industry can be a tough nut to crack. Just ask Charli Howard, an up-and-coming model from the United Kingdom who confessed that she was dropped by her modeling agency for being “too big” – even though she’s a size 8.

This gorgeous brunette now lives in New York City and has managed to find consistent work as a plus-size model, even though most plus-size clothing cannot be found in anything under a size 16. That’s the fashion biz for you.

If her social media presence is any indication, though, Charli is more than comfortable in her curvy body. She recently shared a pair of sexy lingerie selfies she took during a trip to Austin with her nearly 51,000 Instagram followers, one of which bore the caption: “You don’t have to be skinny to feel beautiful.”

Charli also landed a coveted spot in a Nike campaign that featured her in all her unretouched glory, as well as a similar campaign for Spanish brand Desigual. Both projects were dedicated toward increasing body positivity and encouraging women of all sizes to feel comfortable in their skin.

“Back in about September 2015, I was dropped by my London Agency for being too out of shape, despite the fact I was only a size US 2 to 4,” Charli said in a Desigual commercial. She went on to describe how a Facebook post helped her discover the world of plus-size modeling, and since then, she has never looked back.
