As soon as she graduated high school, Mia dreamed of becoming a model and even walked runways in Paris and Milan as a young teen, but she also faced pressure from her family to pursue a more stable career.
âWith modeling thereâs this huge pressure that your time is now and [it can be] such a short-lived career,â she told the New York Post. âI remember [my father, a physicist] saying, âDo you want to be in a university when youâre 28 years old and youâre in a classroom full of 18-year-olds?ââ
The brainy beauty, who hails from Hong Kong, ended up obtaining a masterâs degree in finance and financial law from the University of London. Although she considers her prestigious education the highlight of her life, Mia quickly discovered that the cutthroat world of commodities trading in London was just not for her.
Thatâs when Mia took a vacation to Thailand and fell in love with Muay Thai, devoting herself to the sport as a way to hone both body and mind. Armed with a new sense of purpose, Mia packed up and moved to New York City. There she signed with Trump Models and landed a lucrative gig as a Guess girl — not to mention the coveted Sports Illustrated win that landed her in the famous February issue.
