In its never-ending quest to alienate as many voters as possible to ensure that it continues to fall against the might of President Donald Trump and the GOP, the Democratic Party will officially turn away candidates who espouse pro-life views in favor of those who support abortion, with Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tom Perez leading the charge.

“Every Democrat, like every American, should support a woman’s right to make her own choices about her body and her health,” Perez said in a statement. “That is not negotiable and should not change city by city or state by state.

“At a time when women’s rights are under assault from the White House, the Republican Congress, and in states across the country, we must speak up for this principle as loudly as ever and with one voice,” he added.

The move represents only the latest of the Democrats’ full-throated appeals to its disenfranchised progressive base, which began to drift away from the party after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was thrown under the proverbial bus to protect establishment favorite Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries.

It also comes after the DNC found itself under fire for supporting Heath Mello in the Omaha, Nebraska, mayoral race after it was discovered that he voted in the state legislature to curb abortion access. Abortion advocacy group NARAL Pro-Choice America called the endorsement “politically stupid” and called for heads to roll because of it.

Perez was quick to acquiesce, noting that he “fundamentally disagree[s] with Heath Mello’s personal beliefs about women’s reproductive health” and insisting that “every candidate who runs as a Democrat should do the same.”

The pro-abortion proclamation has been met with some pushback by ranking Democrats who believe that no Democrat should be pushed out of the tent because of a disagreement on just one particular issue.
