It might have been Mother’s Day but Derek Jeter spent Sunday evening at Yankee Stadium where he was honored with a ceremony to retire his famous #2 jersey. He was joined by his wife, Hannah, who is expecting their first child.
The event was a pretty big deal since Jeter played for the New York Yankees for almost two decades, was the captain for 11 years, played 14 All-Star games, and went to the World Series championships an incredible five times.
The stadium was packed full of well-wishers and fans but one person was notably absent – Alex Rodriguez. Still, people didn’t think twice about it since he claimed he would be in Miami that day to celebrate Mother’s Day with his family and, while that was true, it wasn’t the whole story.
Sure, he posted a picture from early that morning with his own mother and other loved ones but, by nightfall, he was back in New York City having dinner at hotspot, Nobu, with Jennifer Lopez.
While many of their former teammates gathered around Jeter just a few miles away, A-Rod was getting ready for date night. He has said that he didn’t get back to NYC until6pm but the Yankees thing didn’t start until an hour later. Plus, we’re pretty sure he could have found an earlier flight back…
