Former Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who represented Ohio in Congress from 1997 to 2013 and ran in the Democratic presidential primary in 2004 and 2008, told Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity on Wednesday that President Donald Trump is under attack by the bureaucratic “deep state” that is trying to dismantle and destroy his presidency.
Kucinich was unequivocal in his assertion that Trump is being undermined by rogue agents within the intelligence agencies and other governmental organizations who are determined to thwart his authority.
“The political process of the United States of America is under attack by intelligence agencies and individuals in those agencies,” he said, urging the country to put partisan politicking aside and focus on the bigger picture.
“You have politicization of agencies that is resulting in leaks from anonymous, unknown people and the intention is to take down a president,” Kucinich noted. “Now, this is very dangerous to America. It’s a threat to our republic, it constitutes a clear and present danger to our way of life. So we have to be asking, what is the motive of these people?”
Despite what any individual person might think about Trump, Kucinich contended, we cannot allow the institution of American politics to be subverted and co-opted by some shadowy entity pursuing its own ends.
“This isn’t about one president, this is about the political process of the United States of America being under attack by intelligence agencies and individuals in those agencies,” he said.
When pressed by Hannity to specify whether Kucinich was specifically referring to a “deep state,” the former congressman confirmed and noted that the same deep state was responsible for escalating the Russian conflict via Syria in October 2016.
“We’ve got to stand up for America. This isn’t about Democrat, Republican; this is about getting what’s going on in the moment and understanding that our country itself is under attack from within,” Kucinich concluded.
