In the wake of the Justice Department’s controversial decision to appoint a special counsel to probe investigating the unevidenced claims of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the last election, President Donald Trump has called out what he perceives as a double standard in his treatment versus that enjoyed by his opponents on the other side of the aisle.
Taking to Twitter, Trump fired back at the scandal-ridden Clinton campaign – which brazenly colluded with the Democratic National Committee to ensure that Hillary Clinton triumphed in the primary contest against upstart challenger Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) – as well as the Obama administration in one fell swoop.
“With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel (sic) appointed!” he wrote on Thursday morning.
A few hours prior, Trump blasted the ongoing Russia narrative as an utterly biased attempt to delegitimize his authority as president: “This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!” he tweeted.
On Wednesday, former FBI Director Robert Mueller was tasked by the Justice Department to serve as special counsel on the Trump-Russia case after allegations surfaced that Trump informed former FBI Director James Comey about the termination of his former national security adviser.
Trump has embraced the opportunity to finally put a definitive end to the fake news Russia story: “As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know – there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity,” he said in a statement.
