Bruce Jenner and Kris Jenner were married for years and even starred on the reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, together. They seemed to get along well enough until, of course, Bruce emerged as Caitlyn.
Understandably, things were a bit tense for a while but many had hope that the relationship, even if just on a friendship level, could be salvaged. It looks like there’s no chance of that.
Kris’ daughter, Kim Kardashian West, appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and revealed that her mother was so upset by what Caitlyn wrote in her memoir, The Secrets of My Life, that there’s “zero” percent chance that they will ever speak again.
The 36-year-old mother-of-two quickly backpedaled and said: “No, one. No, I would say two percent and those are [half-sisters] Kendall and Kylie. That’s their percentage. All fair, I think.”
So, what’s got Kris so riled up? In her book, Caitlyn claims that Kris knew all about her gender identity crisis before they even got married. The problem with that, though, is that Kris and their entire family say that isn’t true.
On top of that, Caitlyn sat down with Diane Sawyer and admitted that she’s barely on speaking terms with the Kardashians and referred to herself as a “punching bag” for most of her marriage. Yikes!
Kardashian West told Ellen back in April: “I feel like she’s been through so much and [Caitlyn] is promoting this book and she’s saying all these things. I don’t think it’s necessary and I just feel like it’s unfair, things aren’t truthful… Kendall and Kylie [Jenner], that’s their dad and I think my mom’s been so respectful for so long and always wanting Caitlyn around and always wanting to have a great relationship with Caitlyn. I feel like it’s taken [Caitlyn] a really long time to be honest with herself, so I don’t expect her to be honest about my mom now. But it’s just so hurtful. I wish her all the success in the world, but not at our expense.”
Meanwhile, Caitlyn’s good friend, Jennifer Boylan, says: “There’s going to be a different narrative if you ask Kris. There’s going to be a different narrative if you talk to different kids or different friends. There’s never one story in any family — but what I can tell you of Caitlyn is that she has found her peace, and I am very proud of her.”
It’s entirely possible to speak truth and find peace without throwing people under the bus. Let’s hope the drama surrounding Caitlyn Jenner settles down for once and for all.
