Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have hired a surrogate to carry their third child since doctors have deemed another pregnancy unsafe for the mother of two.
The couple are parents to 4-year-old daughter, North, and her 1-year-old son, Saint, but welcoming them into the family wasn’t easy.
“I had a condition called preeclampsia, which is a serious condition you can get during pregnancy,” she explained of her first pregnancy. “It causes your body and face to swell, and that was very uncomfortable for me. I had early-onset preeclampsia and I had to deliver at 34 weeks, almost six weeks early… My placenta stayed attached inside my uterus, which is a condition called placenta accreta. This is a high-risk condition that happens when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall.”
The 36-year-old reality star suffered a similar fate during her second pregnancy and has been warned by two doctors that it’s too risky to get pregnant a third time. After all, she’s already got two children who need her. Why take a chance with her life?
“I want my kids to have siblings, but the doctors don’t feel like it’s safe for me,” Kim explained. Hopefully, using a surrogate will help Kim and Kanye have the family they want without compromising her health.
