Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called Tuesday for lawmakers to order former President Barack Obama to testify before Congress on the ongoing probe into Russia’s potential interference in the 2016 presidential election.

During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Gingrich suggested that Obama’s testimony was imminent.

“Guess what’s about to happen: the Congress is about to have to call Barack Obama in to testify under oath about when he knew about Russia meddling,” he said. “Who told him? Why did he do nothing? Who was in the meetings when he decided to do nothing?”

“It’s going to turn out, yes, there’s a big Russian story,” Gingrich continued. “It’s Barack Obama, not Donald Trump. And you cannot make this stuff up. I think Congress has an obligation to call him in.”

Gingrich, a staunch Trump ally, echoed the sentiments a day prior on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” where he accused Obama of not acting on the possibility of Russian interference because “he didn’t want to rock the boat” for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“There’s no question Congress should call the former president in to testify under oath to explain what he was doing and why he was doing it,” he said. “There’s no question that they should build the case from the ground up.”

“Who was doing the investigating? Who was reporting to the president? Who did it go through? What were the meetings like when they decided not to pursue it? I mean, talk about an extraordinary failure of national security,” Gingrich concluded.

Gingrich’s comments come as undercover filmmaker James O’Keefe’s bombshell CNN exposé continues to make waves. A senior CNN producer was caught on hidden camera as he described CNN president Jeff Zucker’s single-minded devotion to covering the “bullshit” Russia story as a ploy to spike ratings – despite a lack of evidence that is eminently clear to journalists and viewers alike.
