Okay, I need to be honest about something – I did not love the original Jumanji. I have always been a Robin Williams fan and I rarely hate a good adventure flick but something inside me just didn’t connect with that film. Maybe I should watch it now, as an adult… or I could get the oil changed on my minivan.
Anyway, because of my established opinion, I really wasn’t super enthused to hear that it was getting a sequel. Not just because I wasn’t looking forward to it but, with most classics, these resurrections tend to disappoint loyal fans.
Now that the first trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been released, I have to admit that I’m actually a little excited. The story seems interesting and the cast carries the potential for greatness.
In the clip, we see four teens being sentenced to clean a room in the basement of their school as a form of detention. Instead of going the more brooding Breakfast Club route, they end up finding an old gaming console. After choosing which characters they are going to play, they get sucked into the television screen and realize that they have actually become these alter egos.
This transformation allows the movie’s real stars, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, to take center stage. The preview is short so it could actually be a total flop but, if the movie is anything like the trailer, this could be hilarious.
Side note: Nick Jonas also stars in this film but was inexplicably left out of the trailer. Even Cosmo called that rude!
