Did you know that rap legend Tupac Shakur and pop idol Madonna dated back in the nineties? Their relationship was the stuff of rumors for two decades until Madonna confirmed it, and now, a note written by Tupac himself reveals that the reason he broke things off with her is because she is white.
The note, which was obtained by TMZ and is currently up for auction, was written in January 1995 while Tupac was serving a nine-month sentence for sexual assault. He explained that their interracial relationship would have an unequal impact on their lives.
“For you to be seen with a black man wouldn’t in any way jeopardize your career, if anything it would make you seem that much more open and exciting,” he wrote. “But for me at least in my previous perception I felt due to my ‘image’ I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was.”
Tupac then referred to an interview where Madonna allegedly said, “I’m off to rehabilitate all the rappers & basketball players,” claiming that her words “cut me deep seeing how I had never known you to be with any rappers besides myself.”
“In the time since, as you can see, I have grown both spiritually and mentally,” he continued. It no longer matters how I’m perceived. Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with a extremely famous sex symbol,” he continued.
Madonna confirmed her relationship with Tupac back in 2015 during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” where she spoke of her infamous 1994 appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” When pressed about her relationship with Tupac, Madonna became aloof and repeatedly dropped the F-bomb.
“I was in a weird mood that day,” she said. “I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time and the thing is he got me all riles up on life in general. So when I went on the show I was feeling very gangsta.”
