In a move that appears to dismantle a headline grabbing story surrounding the president’s son and a potential Kremlin operative, Donald Trump Jr. took to his personal Twitter account to release the email chain that was hinted at in a bombshell New York Times article that ran at the beginning of the week.

While the Times confessed that it had not obtained or seen the email and was instead relying on information from “three people with knowledge of the email,” the paper ran a story accusing Trump Jr. of meeting soliciting Russian aid to dig up dirt on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

On Twitter, Trump Jr. uploaded the full exchange along with a statement, which read in part: “To everyone, in order to be totally transparent, I am releasing the entire email chain of my emails with Rob Goldstone about the meeting on June 9, 2016. The first email on June 3, 2016 was from Rob, who was relating a request from Emin, a person I knew from the 2013 Ms. Universe Pageant near Moscow.”

According to Trump Jr., his contact had information that he believed was “Political Opposition Research,” but it turned out that she actually “wanted to talk about adoption policy and the Magnitsky Act.”

Indeed, the email chain does not reference any sort of collusion or cooperation between the Trump campaign and the Russian government, although it does allude to former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and son-in-law Jared Kushner being involved with the meeting in some capacity.

In an earlier tweet, Trump Jr. suggested that the kerfuffle surrounding his meeting is just the latest source of manufactured outrage from the Democrats.

“Media & Dems are extremely invested in the Russia story. If this nonsense meeting is all they have after a yr, I understand the desperation!” he wrote.
