From teen idol to repeat offender: singer Aaron Carter was just released from police custody on Sunday afternoon after getting arrested in Georgia Saturday night for driving under the influence and possessing drugs. Carterâs girlfriend was also arrested and remains behind bars.
Carter â who rose to fame in the early 2000s after releasing a number of pop hits but faded back into obscurity in the years to follow â was arrested for marijuana possession in 2008 and completed a stint in rehab in 2011.
His latest encounter with the cops came as Carter made his way to Kansas City, Missouri, to perform alongside rapper Flo Rida. The âAaronâs Party (Come and Get It)â singer now faces a slew of misdemeanor charges, including DUI, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects.
Carterâs girlfriend was also arrested and charged with obstruction and two drug-related charges, but she was not immediately able to post bond and remains locked up for âunknown reasons,â authorities said.
A bizarre video of Carter bragging about his relatively clean rap sheet surfaced on the same day as news of his arrest. Carter can be seen roasting fellow celeb Shia LaBeouf for his recent booze-fueled run-in with the police, ironically stating: âYou wonât catch me getting any DUIs. I donât even drink.â
While Carterâs publicist has declined multiple requests for information about the arrest, his staff took to Twitter on Saturday to blame âtransportation issuesâ for his absence from the planned appearance in Kansas City.
