From teen idol to repeat offender: singer Aaron Carter was just released from police custody on Sunday afternoon after getting arrested in Georgia Saturday night for driving under the influence and possessing drugs. Carter’s girlfriend was also arrested and remains behind bars.
Carter – who rose to fame in the early 2000s after releasing a number of pop hits but faded back into obscurity in the years to follow – was arrested for marijuana possession in 2008 and completed a stint in rehab in 2011.
His latest encounter with the cops came as Carter made his way to Kansas City, Missouri, to perform alongside rapper Flo Rida. The “Aaron’s Party (Come and Get It)” singer now faces a slew of misdemeanor charges, including DUI, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects.
Carter’s girlfriend was also arrested and charged with obstruction and two drug-related charges, but she was not immediately able to post bond and remains locked up for “unknown reasons,” authorities said.
A bizarre video of Carter bragging about his relatively clean rap sheet surfaced on the same day as news of his arrest. Carter can be seen roasting fellow celeb Shia LaBeouf for his recent booze-fueled run-in with the police, ironically stating: “You won’t catch me getting any DUIs. I don’t even drink.”
While Carter’s publicist has declined multiple requests for information about the arrest, his staff took to Twitter on Saturday to blame “transportation issues” for his absence from the planned appearance in Kansas City.
