What better way to celebrate a successful heist than to take a celebratory nap? That appears to have been this Texas robber’s line of thinking after he threatened his roommate with a gun and stole $80 before promptly falling asleep in their apartment.
20-year-old Kanyonia Sedekiya of Abilene was arrested by the local SWAT team after he was accused of tying up his roommate with duct tape and robbing him early Friday morning, police posted on Facebook.
“Just before 4 a.m. police were called to a robbery in progress at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Yeomans Road,” the statement continued. “An apartment renter says a roommate had come to the apartment in the early hours and after a verbal argument, Sedekayi pulled a handgun demanding money from him. Sedekayi then bound the man with tape and fell asleep inside the apartment.”
As the robber slept peacefully, the victim broke free from his bonds and fled to a neighbor’s apartment to call the police, the Abilene Reporter-News reported. When officers arrived, they spotted Sedekiya sleeping on the couch with the handgun on his lap. They knocked on the door to wake him up, but when he realized what was going on, Sedekiya turned off the lights and refused to open the door.
That’s when the SWAT team got involved and began negotiating with Sedekiya as other officers maintained a perimeter around the apartment building, waiting to secure an arrest warrant. Authorities were eventually able to convince the crook to surrender without further incident.
He faces one count of first degree felony aggravated robbery and is currently held at the Taylor County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
