In the wake of President Donald Trump’s remarks at his Phoenix rally on Tuesday, CNN host Don Lemon delivered a scathing criticism of the speech that characterized the president as “unhinged.” The rant appears to have won over “Captain America” actor Chris Evans, who is now calling for the anchor to run for the Oval Office.
“Can @donlemon please run for president in 2020?” Evans tweeted Wednesday morning on his personal account. “Thank you for speaking truth in the face of so much ignorance and inevitable retaliation.”

Evans appeared to be responding to Lemon’s Tuesday night monologue following Trump’s address in Arizona, which saw the president speak out against “dishonest” mainstream media figures and their role in fomenting divisions across the country.
“What we witnessed is a total eclipse of the facts,” Lemon rebutted. “Someone who came out on stage and lied directly to the American people and left things out that he said in an attempt to rewire history, especially when it comes to Charlottesville.”
“He’s unhinged,” he continued. “It’s embarrassing, and I don’t mean for us, the media, because he went after us – but for the country. This is who we elected president of the United States. A man who is so petty that he has to go after people he deems his enemy, like an imaginary friend of a six-year-old.”
On Tuesday, Trump read direct transcripts of his remarks on Charlottesville, which he claims the media distorted to paint him as a white supremacist and neo-Nazi sympathizer. But Lemon doubled down on the aspersion, even taking it one step further to accuse Trump of wanting widespread bloodshed.
“He hasn’t really said anything that denounced the alt-right,” Lemon said. “He talked about the KKK and whatever. He hasn’t really done that. He is clearly trying to ignite a civil war in this country. He has not tamped down race. And I’m just going to say, if he was on my team, in this newsroom, and said those things, he would be escorted out of the building by security.”
