There are some truly special people in this world but it’s not always a good thing. As everyone prepared with protective glasses for the eclipse, one rapper took to Twitter to say that he wasn’t buying into the hype.
First, he tweeted: “Am I crazy for watching the eclipse today w no glasses? I’ve sungazed before and afterwards saw colors for a whole day. I didn’t die tho.”
He followed that up with: “This ain’t the first solar eclipse and I’m pretty sure our ancestors ain’t have no fancy eyewear. Also pretty sure they ain’t all go blind.”
Seriously? How are we not supposed to think that’s related, right? On top of that, he took to Instagram to share a post of himself wearing special glasses and said: “Doc said I gotta keep these on in the daytime now. A lil annoying but they’re pretty fire.”
Again, people lost it because it seemed to confirm the possibility that he damaged his eyesight by looking directly at the sun during an eclipse.
Most recently, he shared another video of himself wearing the glasses but said: “It’s a lot of rumors and allegations going on about me, a lot of people are confused, a lot of people are worried and hitting my phone, so I just wanted to come on here and address the situation. Yep, haha, jokes is on me. It is true. I can now see the future. In fact, I am now legally blind to the bullshit.”
Of course, by adding those last three words and taking off his glasses, some people are believing that this was all a joke but… that doesn’t explain why he cancelled his shows. Was this all a well-manufactured attempt to generate hype? If so, it’s working.
As of right now, he’s slated to appear at the Meadows Music an Arts Festival in New York City on September 15 and at the Spaceland Block Party in Los Angeles on September 17. We’ll see if he’s wearing those special glasses…
