Twitter users barraged the social media platform this afternoon after First Lady Melania Trump was pictured wearing stiletto heels while boarding Air Force One alongside President Donald Trump as they headed to Texas to survey the damage wrought by Hurricane Harvey.
The First Lady wore sunglasses, a bomber jacket, a black pantsuit, and tall stiletto heels that some have attributed to designer Manolo Blahnik. Her outfit choice, like every other detail about the Trump presidency, stirred controversy almost immediately.
“Good luck surveying a flood zone in those shoes,” one critic – who works as a reporter for Politico — sneered, while another attributed a made-up quote to Mrs. Trump: “’The higher the heels, the further from the poors.’”

Great heels for the occasion, I'm sure. Sure to heal. https://t.co/Glw0kStQr9

She does know she's going to a natural disaster, right? Not sure 4 inch heels is the most appropriate footwear.

As it turns out, Melania Trump has acquired the ability to change her clothing: by the time she disembarked in Corpus Christi, Texas, the First Lady was wearing a loose-fitting white blouse, black pants, and Adidas sneakers, as well as a baseball cap emblazoned with the abbreviation “FLOTUS.”
The First Lady is wearing sneakers. I hope the haters feel good about themselves. https://t.co/CVjg3nLOG7

Trump supporters also did a victory lap on Twitter, attacking critics for obsessing over Melania Trump’s fashion choices while Harvey continued to inflict damage on southeastern Texas and accusing former First Lady Michelle Obama of not even visiting the aftermath of Sandy.
There's a ton of legitimate shit worthy of outrage right now. The shoes that Melania Trump wears on a flight to Texas isn't one of them.

Melania shoes are much nicer than the those Michelle wore to Sandy don't you agree ladies?
Oh that's right she didn't go
One commenter even framed the manufactured kerfuffle over the First Lady’s footwear as another mainstream media manipulation tactic.

Despite the issue having ostensibly been resolved, left-wing media outlets tried to catalogue the situation as a loss for the Trumps. In a sneering piece, the New York Times argued that while Melania Trump disembarked in the appropriate attire, she should literally always be concerned about what she is wearing and what kind of message it sends. Because that’s certainly a progressive, feminist attitude, right?
