A Georgia middle school teacher was arrested for the second time for having sex with a student last week after the investigation into the first alleged instance of sexual assault uncovered another possible victim.
40-year-old Shawnetta D. Reece of Blairsville was arrested last Thursday and charged with sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority, WXIA reported.
Agent Kim Williams with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) noted that the new charge stem from a probe into Reece’s background, which revealed that she had sex with an 18-year-old student in 2015. The alleged victim was a high school senior at the time.
Reece, a former middle school gym teacher and high school track coach, was already in hot water for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old eighth grader in 2013. She was arrested and charged with child molestation and sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority last month.
Once the GBI has completed its investigation, the case will be handed over to the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney for prosecution. If convicted, Reece faces anywhere from one to 25 years in prison for having sex with the 18-year-old student and 25 to 50 years for the 15-year-old-student, as well as heavy fines.
Reece, who taught physical education at Union County Middle School, was seen in a cached version of her since-deleted Twitter page interacting with students as both a gym teacher and track coach, WXIA reported. It appears that none of the students featured on her Twitter page are involved in the ongoing investigations.
