By now, you’ve probably heard about the horrific shooting on the Las Vegas strip during an outdoor music festival featuring Jason Aldean. The numbers continue to change as the story develops by, as of right now, 58 people are dead and another 515 are injured.
A video posted by TMZ shows the moment when the singer realized that something terrible was happening to the crowd of 22,000 at the show. For a while, he continues performing after the gunshots began but it’s very clear that he took cover the second he realized that a devastating situation was unfolding right before his eyes.
Details are still emerging but we do know that the police have identified 64-year-old Stephen Paddock as the shooter. He managed to use some sort of hammer device to break his window on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino so that he could shoot at the crowd from a perch.
Paddock lived at a nearby retirement community in Mesquite, Nevada and had no previous criminal record. He was found dead when the SWAT team kicked down his door. They found almost 10 other weapons inside of the hotel room.
No matter what we learn about this situation, the truth is that this is a tragedy. This is the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Let’s learn from this so that these lives haven’t been lost in vain.
