Things were already tense between Tyrese Gibson and his Fast and Furious franchise co-star, Dwayne Johnson, before the delay of the next installment in the series was confirmed so it’s no surprise that the situation has now taken a turn for the worse.
Fast 9 was set to premiere in April 2019 but now the project has been pushed back for unspecified reasons, according to Variety. Now, it won’t reach audiences until April 10, 2020. That’s a long time for everyone to wait and stay interested. Yikes.
Tyrese wasted no time addressing the situation and took to Twitter to share the new release date along with the caption: ”#PSA Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post – Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamilyright? Nah….. it’s about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I’m just a passionate film critic.”
Well, damn! You can’t hate Gibson for calling out Johnson on respecting the timeline. Even if we all think these movies need to stop, it’s pretty disrespectful to change your schedule after committing to other projects.
What’s interesting is that Johnson called out Vin Diesel for doing the same exact thing. At some point, you can’t help but wonder if the common denominator (Johnson) isn’t the one causing trouble since they didn’t have problems within the “Fast Family” until he came along.
