It’s getting real for Kevin Spacey! As we reported, actor, Anthony Rapp, accused Spacey of making sexual advances at him when he was just a 14-year-old boy back in the ’80s.
In response, Spacey released a statement on social media that said he was “beyond horrified” about this story but claims that he doesn’t remember the incident, blaming it on “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.” He added that he was sorry and then used the opportunity to come out as gay, a move that has baffled and infuriated many in the gay community including Star Trek actor, Zachary Quinto.
The openly gay 40-year-old actor took to Twitter to say, “It is deeply sad and troubling that this is how Kevin Spacey has chosen to come out. Not by standing up as a point of pride — in the light of all his many awards and accomplishments — thus inspiring tens of thousands of struggling LGBTQ kids around the world. But as a calculated manipulation to deflect attention from the very serious accusation that he attempted to molest one.”
Meanwhile, Rosie O’Donnell responded directly to Spacey on Twitter and wrote, “u don’t remember the incident – 30 years ago? – f*ck u kevin – like Harvey we all knew about u – I hope more men come forward.”
The biggest, most dramatic response to all of this has been that Netflix wasted no time in pulling their critically-acclaimed show, House of Cards, now that its star is gaining the wrong kind of attention.
Netflix along with the show’s producers, Media Rights Capital, released a joint statement saying, “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
Wow… only time will tell if more people come forward or if this was an isolated incident. Either way, Spacey’s own house of cards is beginning to fold.
